Profile

Julius Kwabena Karikari is a Senior Medical Records Technician and a Biostatistician at the University Health Services, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He currently serves as the Head of the Records Unit, a position he has held since January 5, 2026, and as Project Administrator for the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Implementation Project, a role he assumed in January 2025, at the University Hospital, KNUST.

He holds an MPhil in Field Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics from KNUST and a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University for Development Studies, Tamale. His academic and professional training is complemented by several advanced certifications in data quality, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, leadership for health systems transformation, antimicrobial stewardship, and tuberculosis research.

Mr. Karikari has extensive experience in health data management, epidemiological analysis, and applied biostatistics, with a strong focus on clinical and public health research. His work involves the organization, validation, and analysis of large health datasets to support evidence-based decision-making, health systems strengthening, and policy formulation. He is particularly skilled in the use of statistical software such as STATA and R, data visualization tools, and health information systems.

His research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, maternal and child health, injury epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, survival analysis, and health inequalities. He has published peer-reviewed articles in reputable international journals, including PLOS One, BMC Pediatrics, and Burns Open, with research spanning malaria, anaemia, stroke, burn injuries, and neonatal care practices in Ghana.

In addition to his technical roles, Mr. Karikari is actively involved in institutional service and leadership. He serves as Secretary of the Hospital Research Committee and the Public Health Committee at University Health Services, KNUST, and is a member of the Public Health Rapid Response Team. He is also a collaborator with the Global Burden of Disease project at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).

Mr. Karikari is a member of several professional bodies, including the International Biometric Society, the Royal Statistical Society, the Ghana Epidemiological Society, and the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana. His work reflects a strong commitment to research excellence, data integrity, and the advancement of public health practice.
