Stephen Hill Mends Aikins joined the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana in October 2002 as a Lecturer. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in October 2008 and Associate Professor in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in August 2015. He is a member of several professional bodies including the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (since 2005), European Society of Agricultural Engineers (since 1998); Ghana Institution of Engineering (since 2004), and Ghana Society of Agricultural Engineering (since 1996). He is also an Associate of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers, United Kingdom (since 1998). He holds a MPhil degree in Agricultural Machinery Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom. He also holds a BSc. (Hons) degree in Agricultural Engineering, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Management from KNUST. He is the representative for KNUST on the Governing Council of KAAF University College, Buduburam, Ghana and also the representative for KNUST on the Governing Council of Ghana Communication Technology University, Accra. He has served as a Consultant in Agricultural Machinery for AFRICARICE at Saint-Louis, Senegal on different occasions. Between November, 2010 and December, 2013 he served as the Transport Engineer for KNUST. During this period he also served as a member of the KNUST Security Services Management Committee as well as a member of the Welfare Services Board. He was the Head for the Agricultural Machinery Section of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from August, 2018 until July, 2020. On several occasions he has served as the Acting Head of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. Between August, 2016 and July 2018, Stephen was as a Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast. He served as a team member on an international multidisciplinary research on “Combining mechanization with conservation agriculture in the transitional zone of Brong Ahafo region, Ghana”. Currently, at KNUST, Stephen is the lecturer for the following courses: Farm Power and Machinery; Advanced Farm Power and Machinery; Engineering Economy and Management; Management and Entrepreneurship Development; Research Methods and Instrumentation; Soil Mechanics and Cultivations; and Soil Tillage. Stephen has supervised 128 undergraduate students. He has also supervised nine postgraduate students five of whom were international students. Additionally, he has co-supervised two postgraduate students. His research areas/ interests include Soil Tillage; Conservation Agriculture; Agricultural Mechanisation; and Agricultural Machinery Management.
