Profile

Dr. Jerome Dela Lavie is a Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering at KNUST, where he specialises in bioengineering, postharvest engineering, and intellectual property. He holds an MPhil in Intellectual Property and a Master of Business Administration, which complements his technical expertise and enhances his ability to bridge the gap between engineering and business.

For his PhD in Bioengineering, his research focused on thermochemical conversion of biomass, waste valorisation, and optimising pyrolysis processes. Notably, he has developed catalysts to enhance yields from refuse-derived fuels and evaluated pyrolytic char for soil improvement and briquette production. His work aims to bolster Ghana’s circular economy by converting waste into renewable energy and functional materials, while advancing research, process optimisation, and policy adoption in the renewable energy sector.

Before entering full-time academia, he gained nearly eight years of experience in the corporate world as a patent drafter, trademark agent, and administrator, successfully combining engineering knowledge with intellectual property expertise. Dr. Lavie actively engages in promoting intellectual property awareness and enforcement through media visits and other forums.

As an award winner of the 2017 Green Entrepreneurship Award, he supports start-ups and individuals in developing competitive and winning business strategies, further illustrating his commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
