Profile

Kofi Agyekum (Ph.D) is a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Construction Technology and Management, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.  He holds BSc (Hons), MPhil, and Ph.D. degrees in Building Technology. He is a Commonwealth Academic Fellow (obtained at the University of Loughborough, UK).

Kofi Agyekum has expertise in building technology, construction management (CM) and project management (PM) research, practice and teaching. His areas of specialization include Circular economy in construction, Building Pathology, Green, Sustainable and Lean Construction, Construction health and safety, and Construction Project Management. He is a research active academic with publications in top-ranked journals in construction-related disciplines like the Journal of Building Engineering (Q1 Journal in Elsevier), Safety Science (Q1 Journal in Elsevier), Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Q1 Journal in Emerald), Smart and Sustainable Built Environment (Q1 Journal in Emerald), Built Environment Project and Asset Management (Q1 journal in Emerald), International Journal of Construction Management (Q2 Journal in Taylor and Francis), etc. His research works have benefited from funds from organizations like the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

Due to his expertise, Kofi Agyekum renders services at both local (University), National (Ghana), and International levels. He serves on several boards and committees within the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. These include: The College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) Graduate Committee (where he is a member and secretary); Board Member of the KNUST Students Financial Services Management Board; Member of the Advisory Board of the KNUST Office of Grants and Research; Member of the KNUST Land Use Committee; Member of the KNUST E-Learning Board; Member of the KNUST Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Champions; among others.

At the national level, Kofi Agyekum is the Secretary of the Professional Practice Committee of the Ghana Institute of Construction. He is also the Moderator for the KAAF University College in Accra, Ghana.

His service to the International Community is enormous. Currently, Kofi serves as an External Examiner (Doctoral Thesis) for the Central University of Technology, Free State, South Africa. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology (Q2 Journal hosted by Emerald). He is also an Academic Editor for Academia Engineering, a newly commissioned journal hosted by Academia.edu. Furthermore, he serves as a Reviewer Board member for Buildings, a Q1 journal hosted by MDPI. He is a recognized peer reviewer and mentor and holds certificates to that effect from the Web of Science Academy. Kofi has currently reviewed close to five hundred (500) academic manuscripts for most recognized journals like Safety Science (Elsevier), Journal of Building Engineering (Elsevier), Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice (ASCE), Journal of Architectural Engineering (ASCE); Construction Innovation (Emerald), and Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Emerald), among others.

Kofi Agyekum has published a good number of quality research works. These include four (4) co-authored books, one (1) co-edited book, seven (7) co-authored book chapters, one-hundred and thirteen (113) peer-reviewed journal papers, and forty-six (46) papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. His publications can be found in top-ranked journals like Safety Science (Elsevier-Q1); Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice (ASCE-Q1); Journal of Building Engineering (Elsevier-Q1); Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Emerald-Q1); sustainability (MDPI-Q1), and Case Studies in Construction Materials (Elsevier-Q1).
