Profile

Emmanuel is the immediate past vice dean of the Faculty of Built Environment at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He is a Professor of Construction Project Management in the Department of Construction Technology and Management, College of Art and Built Environment. He is the youngest to have achieved this feat in Ghana. His areas of specialisation include Construction Project Management with a particular focus on Project Health, Safety, Environment, Risk and Quality Management, Building Services and Construction Education and Training. He holds a PhD in Building Technology and has extensive industry and research experience in construction project management. He is a two-time fellow of the Brown International Advanced Research Institute (BIARI) at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where he focused on Technology Entrepreneurship and Management and Health and Social Change in Africa. He has a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management ICM-UK from Bournemouth, England, a certificate in Teaching and Learning Skills and Innovations and Technology Transfer from the Training Innovations and Technology Transfer, Ghana and a certificate in Primavera P6 from Sterling Project Group, Accra, Ghana. For many years, he served as the coordinator of graduate research programmes in his department and was a member of the University’s School of Graduate Studies Board. He lectures at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Over the years, he has served nationally and internationally on several statutory and ad-hoc committees. In 2024, he served on the Institution of Engineering and Technology technical committee to provide manifesto recommendations for Ghana's political parties.

Professor Adinyira was the chairman of the organising committee for the 2024 CIB W099 and W123 KNUST international conference. He is a Section Editor for the Journal of Science and Technology (JUST). He continues to serve as a guest editor, editor, editorial board member and reviewer for several national and international journals and conferences. He has worked as a visiting scholar at Loughborough University, UK; the University of Johannesburg, South Africa; the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK; and Linnaeus University, Sweden. He was a placement coach (local supervisor) for the following international programmes: Bachelor, Urban and Regional Planning, Saxion University of Applied Science, Netherlands and International Project Management (IPM), Hochschule Fur Technik Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences Germany.

Professor Adinyira has worked on several projects, researched several construction-related issues in Ghana and other West African countries, and participated in several international conferences and short courses on construction and development. He has over 250 publications, including books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers, with 6050 plus citations on Google Scholar. He is a proud recipient of multiple international and national awards. He has several research grant awards to his credit, including the prestigious Linnaeus-Palme planning program by the Swedish Council for Higher Education International Cooperation and Exchange. He has successfully supervised 13 PhD, 17 MPhil, over 60 MSc/CEMBA, and over 150 BSc research works.

Emmanuel is an enthusiastic and dedicated professional, a proactive academic, and a leader with a solid ability to manage organisations and projects from conception through to successful completion. He is a Professional Engineering Technologist with the Ghana Institution of Engineering and Technology, a Professional Member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, an Affiliate Member with the Centre for Sustainability and Resilient Infrastructure & Communities London South Bank University, UK, a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Construction, a Fellow of the Rural Research and Advocacy Group of the Centre for Rural Research and Poverty Reduction, Ghana, a Member of the Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM-Global), an Incorporate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, UK, a Member of Emerald Literati Network and a Member of the International Society for Development and Sustainability.
