Profile

Dr. (Mrs.) Bennetta Koomson is a Senior Lecturer and consulting Engineer at the Department of Materials Engineering, KNUST, Ghana. She holds a PhD, an MPhil and a BSc degree in Minerals Engineering from University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, respectively. She did her MPhil and PhD exchange programs at the University of Western Ontario (UWO - Western University, London, Ontario Canada) and the University of South Australia (UniSA), Future Industries Institute (FII) respectively.

Bennetta has a rich Minerals processing industrial and laboratory management experience. Her research interests are; Mineral / Metallurgical Waste Re-processing (Ferrous Metallurgical Slags Beneficiation, Assay Laboratory Waste Management, Nanotechnology Applications in Tailings Management, Effluent Treatment), Water Quality Monitoring, Waste Water Treatment, Sustainable Mining/Environmental Management and Gender Equality. As a researcher, Bennetta has authored or co-authored publications /conference proceedings in accredited peer reviewed journals.

She is a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) and a past President of Women in Engineering (WinE), Ashanti Region. She is also a member of Women in Mining (WiM), Ladies in Mining and Allied Professions, Ghana (LiMAP-GH) and Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Ghana (WiSTEM-GH). She is the founder of Luv-Ebeneta Carrer Fair, a youth development strategy and outreach programme to Upper Primary, Junior and Senior High Schools in Ghana, designed to interact and counsel students (especially females) on choosing careers pertaining to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This program also empowers young people to improve their moral standards and quality of life through intentional training on moral values, financial appreciation, independence, and hands-on engineering based vocational training/human capacity building to meet the society/nation’s needs respectively.
