Very Rev. Prof. William Obeng-Denteh CMath FIMA is a Professor of Mathematics and current Head of Department of Mathematics. He earned BSc (Mathematics), MSc (Mathematics) and PhD (Pure Mathematics) Degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.  He obtained a Diploma in Theology from the then Christian Service College, now Christian Service University, Kumasi, Ghana. He had his Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ from Offinso Training College. He  attended Prempeh College and Technology Secondary School for his GCE Ordinary Level and GCE Advanced Level programmes respectively. He is an Ordained Minister of the Methodist Church Ghana and the Journal Secretary of the Kumasi Diocesan Synod. He is the Director of the Tertiary Education Directorate of the Methodist Church Ghana. His inclination is towards counselling, teaching and preaching the Word of God to manifest the Salvation message. 

Very Rev. Prof. Obeng-Denteh is a Chartered Mathematician (CMath) and Fellow (FIMA) of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, United Kingdom, which supports the advancement of mathematics. He is a member of the Research Group for Topological Data Analysis. He was awarded the GSFN Research Global Chair in 2024 by Global Sustainable Futures Progress Through Partnerships Network (GSFN) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to mathematics, fostering student motivation and understanding, and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

As a Pure Mathematician, his research interests include Topology, Algebraic Topology and Mathematics Education. His current works are on Chaos Theory/Logistic Map, Homotopy Method, Homological invariants and Extended Complex Plane. He has effectively supervised numerous PhD/MPhil/MSc theses and BSc projects, all culminating in successful graduations. There are a number of students at various stages of supervision. He has the passion for teaching students to really understand and appreciate the essence of mathematics in the pure and real facets of the course. He has a number of publications in refereed journals. He has done lots of Conference and Workshop presentations of papers and posters. His purpose is to make pure mathematics accessible and appreciable to students and researchers. He served on several committees and teams in the university, national and international organizations.

He offers counselling and motivates students to excel in their various areas of studies as well as their relationship with their Creator. He is the Patron of GHAMSU, KNUST Local and the University Choir.

Very Rev. Prof. Obeng-Denteh is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mathematical Acumen and Research. He is a member of Ghana Science Association (GSA), American Mathematical Society (AMS) and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). 

He served as an external examiner and external assessor for several institutions. Furthermore, he was a member of the team under National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) that reviewed the Senior High School (SHS) Additional Mathematics and Mathematics curriculum and co-authored the first-year teacher's manual. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for several renowned academic journals.

He enjoys playing the piano in his leisure time.
