Project Description:
"Low-cost Monitoring of Critical Infrastructures in Ghana" is jointly undertaken by the Structural Mechanics and Monitoring Chair at the Department of Civil and Geomatic Engineering (ETH Zurich), the Structural Health Monitoring and Earthquake Research Center at the Department of Civil Engineering (KNUST), and the Bridges Department of the Ghana Highway Authority. This groundbreaking initiative aims to develop and implement an innovative, low-cost monitoring system for critical infrastructures such as bridges and buildings in Ghana.
With a grant of CHF 20,000 (GHC 252,788.68) and a project duration of 18 months starting in September 2023, our team of experts is committed to addressing the pressing need for efficient and cost-effective monitoring solutions in infrastructure management in Ghana.
The team at ETH Zurich is privileged to contribute their expertise in civil engineering and cutting-edge technological advancements. Through their research and data analysis expertise in sensor development and deployment, they aim to develop robust monitoring techniques tailored to the unique challenges faced by critical infrastructures in Ghana.
As a collaborative effort, KNUST's team brings extensive experience in structural engineering and field testing. Together, we are refining the monitoring system's design and ensuring its compatibility with local conditions and infrastructure.
The Bridges Department of the Ghana Highway Authority plays a crucial role in providing practical insights into implementation and aligning the monitoring system with the specific needs and requirements of Ghana's critical infrastructures.
Through this project, we aim to revolutionize infrastructure monitoring and management practices, enhancing the safety, durability, and resilience of critical infrastructures. By developing low-cost solutions, we strive to create a safer and more sustainable infrastructure network that benefits the communities we serve.
The teams are excited to be part of this transformative project, and we invite you to follow our progress and stay informed about our research findings and updates as we work towards creating a more resilient infrastructure network in Ghana.
