Profile
Nancy Anataba Kyorku Dzikunu-Bansah, PE, is a Professional Civil and Geotechnical Engineer, researcher and educator with expertise in geotechnical engineering, infrastructure development and climate-resilient infrastructure research.
She is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, where she teaches geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics, supervises undergraduate research and contributes to research on infrastructure performance under changing environmental and climatic conditions.
Her professional experience spans geotechnical site investigations, subsurface characterisation, slope stability assessment, irrigation and dam infrastructure, water and sanitation systems, and civil infrastructure development. Her work combines practical engineering experience with multidisciplinary research to address infrastructure challenges in climate-vulnerable environments.
Her research focuses on climate–soil–infrastructure interactions and unsaturated soil behaviour, particularly the influence of climatic variability on soil moisture, suction and pavement performance. She integrates field monitoring, geospatial analysis, climate indicators and computational modelling to support climate-informed infrastructure design, planning and asset management.
Nancy holds an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience from the University of Ghana and a BSc in Civil Engineering from KNUST. Her broader professional interests include infrastructure systems modelling, geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence applications in engineering, climate risk assessment, greenhouse gas measurement and verification, carbon accounting and sustainability.
She has participated in international leadership and professional development initiatives, including the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Women Techsters Fellowship and STEM Elevate Programme.
Beyond her technical and academic work, Nancy is passionate about engineering education, mentorship, leadership development and advancing women's participation and progression in STEM. She is the founder of Beyond the Straight Path: Women Navigating STEM, Life & Leadership, a storytelling and advocacy initiative exploring the experiences, decisions and lessons that shape women's professional journeys.
