Profile

Dr. Evans Amponsah holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a Master's degree in Advanced Computational Structural Mechanics at the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), Germany, a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. Presently, Dr. Amponsah serves as a lecturer at the Civil Engineering Department of KNUST. In this role, he imparts his expertise to students, teaching strength of materials and structural materials at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr. Amponsah's research interests are centered on engineering materials and structures. He specializes in the Fatigue and Fracture mechanics of engineering materials and structures, assessing the damage tolerance of structures, and examining the behavior of engineering structures under extreme loading conditions.

Dr. Amponsah combines experimental methodologies with advanced Finite Element modeling in his research endeavors. His work is underpinned by the principles of fracture mechanics, enabling him to study structural behavior and predict the residual life of components and structures with cracks or other defects. Given the inevitability of defects in engineering components, he firmly believes that accurate prediction of when these defects become critical in a component or structure under service or extreme loads is crucial for informed and cost-effective maintenance strategies.
