Profile

Prof. Edward Ebow Kwaansa-Ansah, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He had his BSc., MSc in Chemistry from KNUST in 1991 and 1998 respectively. He obtained a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the same Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in June 2015 after a course in Analytical Instrumentation and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Michigan USA in 2010. He joined the KNUST in August 1999 as a Lecturer and rose through the ranks to Associate Professorship in Chemistry in August 2019. His main research focus is in the area of Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Toxicology. His research interests span a variety of areas all of which call to play his expertise in analytical and environmental chemistry: new product development and environmental toxicology with emphasis on the environmental impact of toxic substances and their effects on human and the surrounding environment, the origin, transport, distribution and fate of environmental pollutants (such as pesticides, PAHs, and heavy metals), human exposure, associated health hazards, and ecotoxicology. It includes aquatic pollution and heavy metals pollution in large and small scale artisanal mining, water quality assurance and quality control analysis of underground water, surface water as well as bottle and sachet water. In environmental pollution, he researches into heavy metals as well as radionuclide pollution of soils, river sediments, surface waters and fish from the general aquatic ecosystem. He is also endowed with the knowledge and skill in the food and beverage industry, analyzing food and food supplements for their safety, evaluating food and food supplements for their safety with respect to their proximate, heavy metal and pesticides contents. He has considerable experience in High School and University teaching. He has been a resource person for the West African Examinations Council, WAEC for well over thirty years as an examiner, item writer and moderator just to mention a few. He is a member of reputable associations such as: Ghana Science Association, Ghana Chemical Society, University Teachers Association of Ghana, Pesticides, Environment and Public Health Research Group. Prof. E.E.Kwaansa-Ansah is a Fellow of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA. He has served the International, National and the University communities through his involvement as an editorial member of the Journal of Science and Technology, JUST, reviewer for many refereed journals, Departmental Board Secretary, Head of Section, University Hall fellow, University Hall Master, Chairman of Committee of Hall Masters and member of many other committees. He is a resource person for many secondary schools in Ghana and The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, Ghana.
