BRIEF PROFILE of Dr. E. K. ANTO

Dr. Emmanuel Kwaku Anto joined the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in October 2001 as Lecturer, after leaving the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) as a Senior Scientific Officer attached to the Metrology Division where he played an instrumental and pivotal role in the Electricity Meter Testing, Calibration and Verification Project. He holds a BSc. (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree from the KNUST, a Diplom-Ing. (equivalent of MSc.) Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the KNUST.
He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department on post-retirement contract. He was a former Head of the Department, and a former Electrical Services Consultant of the University. He is also a Fellow of The Brew Hammond Energy Center (TBHEC). He was the Main Project Coordinator of an African-Union funded Research Project titled Potential of Distributed Grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems in Rural Electrification in Africa, a joint project undertaken by KNUST through TBHEC, the University of Botswana and University of Flensburg, Germany. He was also the Team Leader of the Joint Solar PV Working Group that worked on a NRW/GIZ Germany sponsored Cooperation/Joint Renewable Energy Research Project titled “Climate and Resource Protection in Ghana” between The Energy Center (TBHEC), KNUST and Technical University Dortmund and University of Applied Sciences in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. In 2015, he was the KNUST Excellence Award Winner as Overall Best Senior Member, Services and Innovation.
He has offered a number of Community Services as an External Moderator for the National Board for Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX), as well as for a few Affiliate Institutions of KNUST. Besides, he had been a Member of the Ghana National Electrotechnical Committee (GNEC) and the National Technical Committee on Energy Meters (TC 10) for a number of years. In 2012, he was nominated as a Member of the National Committee set up to Investigate the Floodlights Outage at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi. Besides, he has served as a Member on various Affiliation Proposal Review Committees, and Chaired two Committees of enquiries into allegations of academic misconduct against students. Furthermore, he was a Visiting Lecturer for the National University of Rwanda during the period of 2004 to 2006.
His research interests are on renewable energy and energy-efficiency technologies, grid integration effects of solar PV plants in distribution and transmission systems, application of local materials as backfills for improving earthing and prepayment metering. Arising out of his R&D efforts are a number of journal publications and conference proceedings.
