Grants/Funds Awarded
2022 - Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), The Coconut Value Chain Project (CVCP), funded by New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT), USA. Grant: USD 10,000. This CVCP project will develop a pilot-scale smart engineering design for complete valorisation of locally produced coconut in Ghana into several products including milk, chips, oil and activated carbon. A life cycle assessment (LCA) of the process shall also be conducted to reduce carbon footprint.
2022 - Principal Investigator (PI), The Oil-Well Biocement Project (OBP), funded by the KNUST Research Fund (KReF). Grant: GHC 45,000. This project is developing a sustainable Biocement capable of supplementing up to 60% of Portland cement in Oil-Well cement slurries, reducing the carbon footprint of oil-well cementing by about 56%. Portland cement is responsible for about 5% of global CO2 emissions. The petroleum industry uses mainly Portland cement for oil-well cementing, each well consuming up to about 5 tonnes of Portland cement, depending on the depth of the well and other factors.
2022 - Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), The Silica Xerogel Project (SXP), funded by the KNUST Research Fund (KReF). Grant: GHC 45,000. The SXP project focuses on the production of silica xerogel using waste biomasses including rice husk, sugarcane bagasse, cassava periderm, maize husk and corn cobs via the sol-gel approach for myriad applications including food preservation, treatment of aflatoxins, nanotechnology etc.
