Dr. Precious Adade Duodu is a Visiting Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, International Lead for the Department of Nursing, and inaugural Co-Chair of the Black Staff Affinity Group at the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom (UK). In addition, he serves as the President-Elect of the Phi Mu Chapter (England) of the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and he will assume the Chapter Presidency in July 2027. He also serves on the Chapter's Research Committee. In recognition of his expertise, he is a Member of the national Black and Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group (BME SAG), advising the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and the Chief Midwifery Officer (CMidO) at National Health Service (NHS) England on matters relating to inclusion and racial equity in healthcare.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing from the University of Huddersfield, UK, with a thesis titled "Dietary self-care among persons living with type 2 diabetes in Ghana: A concurrent mixed-methods study," which has generated peer-reviewed publications (article 1; article 2; article 3; article 4), a policy brief, and a stakeholder co-creation workshop documentary. He also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) with Distinction from the University of Aberdeen, UK, funded through the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship; a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW); and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (First Class Honours) from KNUST. He is a Chartered Manager (CMgr MCMI) following the completion of a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, Fellow of the Advance HE (FHEA), and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH) in the UK.
Research expertise and interests
Dr Duodu is an interdisciplinary nursing and public health researcher with a strong track record of international collaboration and impact-oriented research that informs policy, education, and practice. His growing body of work includes over 60 publications, with approximately 76% published in Q1 journals, reflecting the quality, global relevance, and scholarly impact of his research. He recently co-authored a Routledge book chapter titled "Anti-Racism in Nursing and Midwifery Education: A Pathway to Social Justice" (Chapter 4).
His research spans three broad areas:
1. Nursing education, professional regulation, and workforce development: Focusing on internationalisation, anti-racist and socially just pedagogies, continuing professional development (CPD), and the global mobility, integration, and retention of nurses. His work also explores equitable governance approaches that strengthen professional competence, leadership, and workforce capacity across health systems.
2. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs): Particularly type 2 diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and dementia, with a focus on self-care, family caregiving, health literacy, and public health nutrition as key determinants of disease prevention and management.
3. Health systems strengthening and implementation research: Emphasising participatory, co-produced, community-based, and policy-engaged approaches to improve healthcare delivery and population health, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Methodologically, he has expertise in quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and multi-methods research, including Delphi and Nominal Group Techniques, as well as systematic, scoping, and integrative reviews. His current portfolio includes multi-country collaborative projects in Ghana, Nepal, and India, alongside knowledge mobilisation and policy-engagement initiatives aimed at translating research into real-world impact.
Dr Duodu is a multi-grant-winning researcher with a strong track record of securing and delivering funded research as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. His work has attracted support from a diverse range of national and international funders and partners, underpinning collaborative, policy-relevant, and impact-driven research in nursing, public health, workforce development, non-communicable diseases, and health systems strengthening.
