Profile

Dr. Emmanuel Odame Owiredu is a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, College of Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a PhD in Statistics from KNUST, an MPhil in Applied Mathematics (Statistics Option) from KNUST, a Diploma in Education (Mathematics) from the University of Education, Winneba , and a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Coast.

His research programme centres on the development and application of robust statistical methods for multivariate and high-dimensional data analysis, with a particular emphasis on modelling frameworks for complex, correlated, and time-dependent data structures. He applies these methods to substantive problems in public health, social sciences, and finance, with published contributions in time series intervention analysis, infectious disease dynamics, supervised machine learning for fraud detection, water and environmental health, maternal and neonatal health, and family planning research across sub-Saharan Africa. His scholarly work has appeared in journals including the Decision Analytics Journal, Stats, Environmental Health Insights, SAGE Open Nursing, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, Applied Medical Informatics, the Ghana Medical Journal, and the International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

Beyond research, Dr. Owiredu brings over a decade of teaching experience spanning senior high school, distance learning, and university levels. He serves as an Assistant Examiner in Mathematics for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and as a Mathematics Facilitator at the KNUST Institute of Distance Learning. He has participated in international scholarly programmes including the TUM.Africa Talent Program at the Technical University of Munich, the Summer School on Models, Statistics and Genetics: Understanding Epidemics in Eldoret, Kenya, and the KNUST-LISA TEACH Project as a resource person. He is a member of the International Biometric Society (Ghana Chapter) and the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE), and he remains committed to advancing statistical education, research collaboration, and quantitative capacity building in West Africa
