Dr Kenneth Appiah Donkor-Hyiaman is a Real Estate Economist with teaching areas in real estate (finance, economics, development), investment appraisal, and sustainability). His previous teaching role was at the Henley Business School at the University of Reading, UK, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Investment Appraisal, Real Estate Finance, and Real Estate Economics. In this role, he helped students understand investment banking, corporate and project finance decision science, fixed-income and equity analysis, property investment analysis, and financial modelling using Ms Excel. He has research interests in the role of institutions in international mortgage finance development, housing finance, the role of real estate in mixed asset investment portfolio, housing market structure, analysis and dynamics, and real estate and urban sustainability.
Prior to joining the university, he worked as a Housing Specialist at the World Bank for the Greater Accra Resilience and Integrated Development (GARID) project. He has also served as Investment Consultant to both local and international investors including the Washington-headquartered BlackIvy Group LLC (co-owners of Ayi Mensah Park, Indigo Homes); Construction Policy Research Consultant to the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)-Ghana, Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Global Communities (YIEDIE), and Berock Ventures Limited. He is a former Executive Secretary of the Construction Sector of the Association of Ghana Industires (AGI), where he led research to inform property and construction industry policies; managed over GHS1,000,000 worth of advocacy projects, sponsored by the Business Sector and Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund and the Star Ghana Foundation, aimed at improving the property and construction business environment in Ghana. Besides, he managed the Construction Industry Development Forum of Ghana (CIDF-GH); a high-powered public-private dialogue platform currently made up of 21 real estate and construction-related public and private institutions and also coordinated the International Finance Corporation (IFC) EDGE programme at the AGI level. He is a Commonwealth Scholar and a Co-founder of Metis Brokers and PropIntel Limited, both being real estate consultancy firms.
