Rev. Prof. Jonathan Edward Tetteh Kuwornu-Adjaottor (BD, MTh, PhD) is an Associate Professor of New Testament and Mother Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics in the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. His research focus is New Testament, Mother Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics and Bible Translation Studies. He is Honorary President of the Synagogue´ Biblical College, Kumasi. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in New Testament Greek at the St. Gregory the Great Provincial Major Seminary, Parkoso, Kumasi.
From 2009 to 2016, Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor has supervised 61 BA and 3 MSc dissertations; and 20 M.Phil theses respectively.
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is the current Head of Department; having been Head, Department earlier for 3 years; and the Department’s Examinations Officer for 2 years. He has served on boards and sub-committees of the KNUST, including Faculty of Social Sciences Board; Full-Time Professorial Member on College of Humanities and Social Sciences Board; Member of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Sub-committee on Appointment and Promotions; Postgraduate Studies Committee of the Department of Religious Studies; Quality Assurance Committee of the Department of Religious Studies; Faculty Examinations Committee; Sub-committees on universities Affiliation to KNUST, CoHSS representative on the Editorial Committee of Journal of Science and Technology (JUST), and Sectional Editor of Art and Humanities; he is Chairman, Consortium of Researchers, Centre for Cultural and African Studies (CeCASt), KNUST, Kumasi. He is a member of the Ethical Review Committee for Humanities and Social Sciences Research, KNUST; and on the University Appointments and Promotions Sub Committee of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, KNUST
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is External Assessor for Valley View University, Oyibi, Accra; College of Humanities and Legal Studies, University of Cape Coast; Christian Service University College, Kumasi; and Fountainhead Christian College, Tema; Moderator of the BA Theology programme of Heritage Christian College, Accra. He is External Examiner to Religion and Theology programmes of the following universities: All Nations University College, Koforidua; School of Graduate Studies, Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon; School of Graduate Studies and Research, University of Cape Coast; School of Graduate Studies, Christian Service University College, Kumasi.
Rev, Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor was Chairman of the Ghana Zone of the West African Association of Theological Institutions (WAATI); Country Representative (Ghana) on the International Cooperation Initiative (ICI) of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL).
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is Managing Editor of E-Journal of Religious and Theological Studies. He is an Editorial Committee member of the following journals: Journal of Applied Thought. He is a reviewer for the following journals: Journal of Languages and Culture; Legon Journal of Humanities; Science, Religion and Culture; Valley View Journal of Theology; International Journal of Asian Social Science; Journal of Applied Sciences, Arts and Theology; Philosophical Papers and Reviews. He also reviews proposals for the Office of Grants and Research, KNUST. He serves also on the Editorial Committee of the Ecumenical Disability Advocates Network (EDAN) of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
He is a member of the following professional associations: Ghana Association of Biblical Exegetes (GABES); New Testament Society of South Africa (NTSSA), Society of Biblical Scholars (SBS); Seminar on the Intercultural Studies of the Scriptures (SISS); and Society of Biblical Literature (SBL).
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor has conducted research and published from the following books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, 1 Thessalonians, 1Timothy and 1 Peter. His research has generated new knowledge for New Testament scholars, Mother Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics scholars and Bible readers in Dangme Bible reading communities. He has proposed that Departments of Religious Studies in Universities, and Theological Seminaries in Africa, should study the Mother-Tongue translations of the Bible in addition to Biblical Hebrew and New Testament Greek referenced in Biblical Studies. He has introduced two postgraduate courses at the Department of Religious Studies, KNUST: (1) RS 536: Mother Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics (2) RS 538: History and Theory of Bible Translation.
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is referenced in the KNUST Research Report in 2015, pp. 116-117. He has increased the visibility of the Department of Religious Studies, KNUST. He is referenced in the International African Bibliography, 2013, p. 52. He won The Royal Bank – CASS Best Researcher Award for the 2014 at KNUST. The International Agency for Standards and Ratings conferred on Rev. Prof. J. E. T. Kuwornu-Adjaottor, the William Shakespeare Research Award- 2015 in Religious Studies, as among the World’s 500 Most Influential Philosopher for the Year 2015 on Earth. With this award, Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor has put the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on the World Map of Religious Studies. He is referenced in the biblicalstudiesblog. He is included in the “2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century” at the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England; and in the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership, American Biographical Institute.
Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is a conference speaker. He has participated in many national and international conferences. He is a speaker of the Bible Society of Ghana Annual Bible Translation Seminars. He is an Ordained Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. He was the Acting Protestant Chaplain of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, from October to December 2016; Acting District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Oforikrom District, from September to December 2015. He was the Minister-in-Charge of the Bethel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Boadi, September 2010 to August 2017. Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor is an Associate Minister of the Christ Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, KNUST, Kumasi.
Prior to his Lecturing career at KNUST in 2009, Rev. Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor was a Tutor and later Acting Director of the Josenhann Lay Training Centre of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Bana Hill, Manya-Kpongunor from 2007 to 2009; Attached Minister, Kolle Memorial Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Sra, and Believers Congregation, of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Somanya. He worked with the Scripture Union Ghana as Training Secretary, Senior Training Secretary, Principal Training Secretary, Regional Coordinator from 1992 to 2007.
