Winston operates in a unique interphase of research and development, where he uses his climate change and natural resources management research to inform community level interventions, and the vice-versa. As such he has had working engagements on sustainable commodity sourcing, climate change and forest management interventions with local communities, civil society organizations and state actors in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Liberia and Nigeria. He has extensively worked with community people on the design and implementation of land use planning, cocoa agroforestry, sustainable agro-commodity supply chain interventions in forest - agriculture landscapes. Through his extensive research and development engagements on natural resources management, land use change, forestry, climate-smart agriculture and governance, Dr. Asante has driven sustainable landscape transformation in smallholder farming systems, including agro-commodities (Coffee, cocoa and oil palm) for the past eighteen years.
