Yaw Wiafe is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging who specialises in Diagnostic Ultrasound. He is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound from Monash University, MSc and PhD in Advanced Ultrasound Imaging from the University of Derby (UK).
He teaches a wide range of ultrasound courses on various clinical disciplines, including abdominal ultrasound, obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound, paediatric ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, vascular and cardiac ultrasound. He is also experienced in curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, having worked in higher education since 2012 as coordinator for Medical Imaging programmes.
He is one of the leading international researchers on intrapartum ultrasound, and has worked with top intrapartum ultrasound researchers like Professor Torbjorn Eggebo of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
His current research interest focuses on developing artificial intelligence (AI) in medical ultrasound applications, of which he is part of international study groups. He is also working on the application of sonoelastography in the assessment of liver diseases of the tropics, and the role of intra-renal Doppler ultrasound in the assessment of Diabetic Kidney Disease.
His international membership with professional bodies include the British Medical Ultrasound Society, the British Society of Echocardiography, and the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
