Profile
Francis is a mathematics educator, an author and currently a lecturer at the Department of Teacher Education (DTE) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in mathematics education from the Institute of Science and Technology Education (ISTE), University of South Africa in Pretoria. Again he had his masters and bachelor degree in mathematics from KNUST. He is also an old boy of the first secondary school in Ghana, Mfantsipim school in Cape Coast. Francis has a certificate in Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management from the University of South Africa and also a diploma in both Project Management and Risk Management form Oxbridge Academy, Cape Town, South Africa.
He has taught at different levels of the educational ladder including the junior high school level, the senior high school level and also at the tertiary level. He has very rich experience in teaching students from different backgrounds, culture, status, education, race and religion. He acquired these experiences while working in different parts of Ghana and South Africa. Francis distinguished himself as an excellent teacher and this earned him several wards while teaching physical sciences and mathematics in schools in both Kwa-Zulu Natal and Cape Town department of educations, South Africa.
His research interest focuses on mathematics problem-solving, ethnomathematics, mathematics values, innovative teaching and alignment checks in mathematics education. Francis has collaborated with other colleagues to published extensively in these areas of research. He has attended and presented at several conferences in both Ghana and beyond. He has, and continues to supervise PhD, masters and undergraduate students in various topics in mathematics education.
Francis is currently the coordinator for the Department of Teacher Education. He has been the department examination officer and also the faculty examination officer for the Faculty of Educational Studies (FES), a position, which he proudly held with high esteem. At, KNUST, Francis has served on many committees on education. This includes Prof Abroampah’s committee tasked by the vice chancellor to audit the KNUST basic school. He serves as a peer reviewer to some international journals. He is also an examiner, moderator and chief marker for mathematics education courses at KNUST’s affiliate colleges of education. His work extends to the national level as an examiner for the National Teaching council (NTC), Ghana.
Francis has excelled in his profession; he has contributed immensely in the education sector and the rippling effect of his works are seen in different sectors, both in Ghana and beyond. Francis is still giving his all-in different capacities to uplift standards of Education in Ghana and beyond.
