Awards and Recognition

2023 PI “Religious Pluralism, Identity Politics, and Cultural Production in Postcolonial Ghana” 10th KNUST Research Fund (KReF) under the Interdisciplinary Grants Scheme.

2022 PI Religious Diversity and Modes of Coexistence across Urban Africa I won the Merian Sibylla Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA). MIASA is the only institute of advanced African studies in sub-Saharan Africa sited at the University of Ghana and funded by the German Federal Government through the German Federal Ministry of Education.

2022-2025 PI Joint Research Project “Islam and Popular Culture and Public Performance Practices: The Production, Transmission of Knowledge, and Creation of Cultural Identities in Africa” awarded by African Multiple Cluster of Excellence - the University of Bayreuth, Germany, under the theme “AFRICA MULTIPLE: RECONFIGURING AFRICAN STUDIES.” Status – Successful. The project is hosted in Africa by Moi University Excellence Centre, Kenya.

2019    Henry Luce Postdoctoral Fellowship on Religion in International Affairs at Center for Global Islam and the Center for African Studies, University of Florida

2020    Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, (DAAD) Research Grant for Alumni on “Insecurities and Social Cohesion in Nigeria: Living in/through Risk Society.”

2019    PI National Research Fund (Nigeria)/ Tertiary Education Trust Fund (NRF/TETFund) a two-year research grant for the project "Entrenching National Consciousness and Culture of Peace through Informal Religious Institutions in Northern Nigeria: A Sociolinguistic Approach"

2016    Nominee DAAD Best International Student Award of the University of Bayreuth   

2014    BIGSAS/DFG Excellence Initiative Doctoral Degree Fellowship award

2011    National Research Foundation (NRF) Republic of South Africa Master Fellowship award
