BRIEF PROFILE OF MR MATTHEW KWABENA OKRAH

 

Mr Matthew Kwabena Okrah holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Linguistics and Masters degree in Linguistics from the University of Ghana and a certificate in French Language proficiency from the National University of Benin. He obtained his GCE O’Level at Nafana Secondary School, Sampa and GCE A’Level at Sunyani Secondary School, Sunyani. He taught at New Abirem Senior Secondary School, Kwahu Ridge Secondary School, Obo Kwahu and Accra Polytechnic at various times from 1994 to 2001.

 

Mr Okrah was appointed Assistant Registrar in 2001 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He had worked at the College of Art (now Faculty of Art) and the Human Resource Division. He was appointed to set up the University Alumni Centre in 2004. He was subsequently appointed the Acting College Registrar for the College of Art and Social Sciences in 2006 and Assistant/Senior Assistant Registrar in charge of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office from 2008 to 2014 and worked under two Vice-Chancellors. He was appointed School Secretary for the School of Graduate Studies from 2014 to 2019 and Registrar for the Institute of Distance Learning from 2019 to 2020. By dint of hard work he rose through the ranks from Assistant Registrar to Deputy Registrar at KNUST.  

 

He served on a lot of Boards and Committees at KNUST. He has also written many memoranda which have impacted positively on the University’s governance. The KNUST Facts and Figures which has been updated yearly since 2007 was compiled by him.

 

Mr Okrah is currently the Registrar of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, on sabbatical from KNUST.

 

Mr Okrah is a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). He is a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and a staunch member of the Men’s Fellowship of the Church.

 

He is a communication expert with interest in editing. He is also a seasoned university administrator.                               

 

He is married with four daughters.
