Profile

Dr. Joseph Oscar Akotey is a Senior Lecturer at KNUST School of Business, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Tecnology. He has a PhD in Development Finance from University of Stellenbosch. His research interest is centred on Development Finance, Risk Finance, and Performance Evaluation. He has published in internationally accredited 3-Star and 2-Star journals such as the World Development, Energy Policy, Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance, Research in International Business and Finance, Journal of Developing Areas, Journal of Risk Finance, African Journal of Economics and Management Studies, Cogent Economics and Finance, etc.

He has also made presentations at various international conferences such as the Centre for the Study of Africa Economies, Oxford University, WEI Conference at Harvard University, the Economic Society of South Africa, and the Global Development Finance Conferences. He is a reviewer for several accredited journals such as the Journal of Economics Studies, Accounting Research Journal, Journal of Risk Finance, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, Geneva Papers, etc.

He has successfully completed the thesis supervision of two (2) PhD students, more than 50 postgraduate students and more than 100 undergraduate students. He currently teaches International Finance, Project Finance, Financial Derivatives, and Ethics and Corporate Governance at KNUST School of Business.

Joseph is the 1997 Western Regional recipient of the Presidential Award for the Best Student in the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examinations. His secondary school was St. Mary’s Boys Senior High School, Apowa, Takoradi and basic school was St. Patrick Primary and Junior High School, Half-Assini.
