Kingsley Opoku Appiah is a dedicated professional whose unwavering commitment to fostering quality education is truly inspiring. He holds the position of Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance. He serves as the Vice Dean of the KNUST School of Business at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. He is also honoured to lead the Department of Accounting and Finance within the School of Business.
Prof. Appiah earned his PhD from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He is distinguished as a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and an esteemed member of the Institute of Directors-Ghana and the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Prof. Appiah's scholarly pursuits encompass various interests, including Accounting, Taxation, Corporate Governance, Sustainability, and Corporate Success or Failure dynamics. His contributions extend to multiple boards and councils, such as the Tek Cooperative Credit Union, Independence Hall, Spiritan University College, and Kessben University College. Notably, he holds the position of Audit Committee Chairman for Bomso Clinic, where his leadership and expertise in accounting are put to practical use. He also represents the COHSS Professorial body on the KNUST Academic Board and serves on the Board of the Institute of Distance Learning at KNUST. His leadership roles in these organizations underscore his influence and credibility in the field. Prof. Appiah's practical experience is not just extensive, it's a testament to his deep understanding of the field. He has had the privilege of consulting for and facilitating training with a number of prominent organizations. His notable engagements include collaborations with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, the Building Stronger Universities Project (BSU), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Ghana Cocoa Board, the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh), the Africa Corporate Governance Network (ACGN), and the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Makers and Partners. This practical experience enhances his academic prowess and ensures his teachings are grounded in real-world applications.
Prof. Appiah's influence extends globally, as evidenced by his international speaking engagements. He was honoured to serve as a keynote speaker at the 9th International Corporate Governance and Accountability Conference hosted by Durban University of Technology in South Africa. Additionally, he has actively participated in over ten international conferences, presenting insightful papers on Corporate Failure Prediction in acclaimed venues across Paris, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Edinburgh, Oxford, Newcastle, Kona, and Kigali. Prof. Appiah also serves as an Associate Editor for Cogent Business & Management and a member of the Technical and Research Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
In his prolific career, Prof. Appiah has authored more than 71 articles in prestigious journals, including the International Journal of Managerial Finance, Applied Economics, Economic Change and Restructuring, Social and Environmental Accountability Journal, Gender in Management: An International Journal, Corporate Governance, Advances in Accounting, Journal of Communication Management, International Journal of Management Practice, International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Journal of Financial Reporting & Accounting, among others. Notably, his paper on predicting corporate failure in the UK manufacturing sector, published in the Journal of Benchmarking, has been recognized as one of the leading articles since 2009, underscoring the significant impact of his research. His research is theoretical and has practical applications, as it can be used to predict and prevent corporate failures in the real world.
