Professional Administrator in higher education and Legal Practitioner, well-versed in university governance (policies, regulations and standard operating procedures), HR strategy and policy development, and able to translate into forward-thinking administrative practices. Proven track record in committee leadership, regulatory compliance and academic service delivery. Recognised for strong institutional memory, integrity and collaborative leadership across local and national academic platforms. Resourceful, meticulous and proactive with strong problem-solving abilities.

Benjamin Boampong Owusu began his career in the University in September 2001 as a Senior Administrative Assistant and was promoted to Principal Administrative Assistant in 2007. His commitment to administrative excellence led to his appointment as Assistant Registrar and assumed duty in April, 2010. After a brief orientation, he was posted to the College of Engineering and assumed duty in August, 2010, as Assistant College Registrar. In March 2015, Mr. Owusu was transferred to the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) as Assistant Registrar to support a colleague Assistant Registrar in the discharge of duties due to the increase in student population.

In September 2015, he was transferred to the Human Resource Development Division and served in various capacities. He was assigned as Assistant Registrar in-charge of Junior Staff Schedule from September 2015 to August 2017. Then to Senior Staff schedule while being promoted to Senior Assistant Registrar in August 2017. In March 2018, he was appointed schedule officer for Senior Members and has been on that schedule to date and promoted to the rank of Deputy Registrar on August 01, 2022.

In the course of his work, Mr. Owusu has served on several Committees and Boards. Amongst them are University Appointments and Promotions Committee (UAPC), Administration Appointments and Promotions Committee (AAPC), College Board, College Appointments and Promotions Sub-Committee and serving as Recorder, Secretary, or Member on various committees. He has also served as Secretary to University Council Search Committees both within and outside the University. 

Mr. Boampong Owusu is an expert in research ethics, recognised for his leadership in establishing and managing the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (HuSSREC) within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His contributions have significantly enhanced ethical research practices, ensuring compliance with rigorous standards and fostering integrity in academic inquiry.

He has contributed to the ongoing statutes review process through writing memoranda, reflecting his commitment to governance and academic excellence. He also lectures post-graduate students on Part-time basis in the KNUST’s Faculty of Educational Studies and School of Business teaching like Legal issues in Educational Administration and Business Law and Ethics.

Mr. Owusu holds B.Ed Psychology and M.Ed Educational Administration from the University of Cape Coast and LL.B and LL.M from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He obtained a Barrister at Law from Ghana School of Law. He has served as a member of Statutes Review Committee; Koforidua Technical University. He has also handled several Civil and Criminal Cases in the Court of Competent Jurisdiction.

Mr. Owusu is a member of Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).  He is also a member in good standing of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) as well as member, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
