Profile

Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah is a media and communication professional, author, and documentary filmmaker with over a decade of experience in journalism, public relations, and digital media. His work spans science communication, health reporting, and multimedia production across broadcast and digital platforms. He currently serves as Head of Media and Events at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), where he oversees institutional media, event communication, and research visibility.

Mr. Debrah began his career in 2011 as a medical laboratory scientist and voiceover artist. In 2014, he joined Moonlite FM, Sunyani, as an English newsreader and was appointed Assistant News Editor at Sky Broadcasting Limited in 2015. He subsequently moved to Multimedia Group Limited as a multimedia journalist and music presenter, where he contributed to news production, science reporting, and programme presentation, and was promoted to Senior Multimedia Journalist in 2022.

He transitioned into university communications and served as Digital Communications Officer at KNUST from January 2025 to October 2025 before being reassigned as Head of Media and Events. 

Mr. Debrah contributes to communication and programme-related initiatives within the University and its partner projects. He serves as Communication Officer for the KNUST Nkabom Collaborative in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the Trans Sahara Africa Project, and the KNUST Technology Consultancy Centre. He is also a founding faculty member of the KNUST Health Journalism Programme.

He is the author of The KNUST Esquire Bedels and The KNUST Campus Lexicon, contributing to institutional documentation and heritage. He is also the inventor of the paper prompter, a tool developed to support media production.

Mr. Debrah has participated in international journalism fellowships and conferences, including the Cassava Mosaic Disease Conference in Cotonou, Benin, where he was selected among journalists in West Africa, and the Digital Public Infrastructure Journalism Fellowship in 2023, where he was selected among 20 journalists across Africa.

He has received several recognitions for his work in journalism and communication. He was adjudged Best Science Reporter in the Ashanti Region at the Ghana Journalists Association Awards in 2019 and was runner-up in the business, health, and entertainment categories in the same year. He was subsequently honoured at the 19th Annual Awards of the Society of Environmental Journalists for his reporting on the impact of antibiotics on public health.

Mr. Debrah is a winner of the online category of the Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” Media Awards (2021) and the Luv FM People’s Choice Award (2021). In 2022, he won the ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Contest and received Certificates of Excellence from SAY Newsroom and Luv FM for his work in medical journalism and science reporting. He was also the recipient of the Engineering Evangelism Award by the Ghana Institution of Engineering in 2022.

He was recognised by the Ghana Science Association with a Special Recognition Award in 2023. In the same year, he won the Best ICT/Telecoms Reporter in West Africa at the West Africa Media Excellence and Conference Awards (WAMECA) for his investigative report on unsolicited mobile subscriptions in Ghana. He is also a three-time finalist in the ICT/Telecoms reporting category of WAMECA in 2019, 2021, and 2022, and was adjudged Best Science and Technology Reporter by the Ghana Journalists Association in 2024.

Mr. Debrah holds a Master of Public Health (Health Education and Promotion), a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, and a Certificate of Proficiency in Health Systems Transformation, all from KNUST. He also holds a certificate in Mobile Journalism from the Deutsche Welle Akademie.

He is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association, the Ghana Science Association, the National Association of Science Writers, and the Society of Environmental Journalists. In addition to his professional work, he engages in music as a singer-songwriter and performer under the stage name El Tov, complementing his work in media and storytelling. He is married to Dr. Neta Parsram.
