Dr. Barbara Gyapong-Korsah is a Lecturer in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety at the School of Public Health, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She holds a PhD in Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management and a Master’s degree in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation from KNUST, as well as a BSc in Chemistry/Biology from the University of Cape Coast.

Her teaching and research interests include environmental sanitation and waste management, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), greywater management and reuse, sustainable water management, and occupational and environmental health and safety. Her research contributes to understanding sanitation and water management challenges and to developing practical approaches to sustainable, climate-resilient WASH systems. Her publications include studies on greywater generation and reuse, greywater treatment and reuse technologies, sanitation, drinking water access, and occupational health.

Before joining the School of Public Health as a Lecturer, Dr. Gyapong-Korsah served as a Grants and Research Manager at KNUST, where she supported the development of research proposals, funding processes, and the management of sponsored research projects. She previously worked as a Research Administrator and Research Manager at KNUST, in the College of Engineering and the College of Health Sciences, respectively.  She has professional experience in community development and WASH projects, including work with CARE International Ghana and the Otumfuo Charity Foundation.

Dr. Gyapong-Korsah also has experience in research administration, project management, capacity building, participatory approaches, monitoring and evaluation, and community engagement. She has facilitated training programs in research administration, grantsmanship, and funding opportunities and has contributed to research and professional development activities in Ghana and internationally.

Dr. Gyapong-Korsah’s research focuses on greywater management and reuse, sanitation access, decentralized treatment technologies, and climate-resilient WASH systems in urban and rural Ghanaian communities. She has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals, including Next Sustainability, PLOS Water, PLOS ONE, Journal of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Development, One Health, and others. Her recent work examines greywater quantities and qualities in low-income urban settlements, innovative treatment technologies for greywater reuse, and broader issues in sanitation access and environmental health.

Dr. Gyapong-Korsah is passionate about bridging research, policy, and community practice to promote sustainable environmental health and improved livelihoods. She continues to supervise postgraduate students and contribute to impactful research and capacity-building initiatives at KNUST and beyond.
