Achievements

During my tenure as the Vice Dean of the Students for the University, I played a key role in the initiation and implementation of several student programs and the creation of lasting functional structures such as the formal establishment of the KNUST Counselling Center (KCC) as a full-fledged GPC accredited counselling and psychological services center.

As the Founding Head of the KCC, I initiated and implemented several novel programs and functional structures to consolidate the KCC in its mandate to provide counselling services to students and staff. These include, but not limited to, the following:

- The institution of College Counsellors for greater proximity and accessibility of mental health services to students; training of staff for early detection and speedy referral of distressed students through the Skilled Helpers Program (SHP);

- Facilitation of the availability of psychiatric services on the main campus in collaboration with Psychiatric Department at KATH so that students in need of psychiatric attention would not have to travel across town for  services;

- Expansion and strengthening of the KNUST Peer Counsellors Program (KPC) to significant numbers and the introduction of several training (on-going formation) programs for them as peer counsellors;

-  Introduced and maintained KCC staff capacity training programs (e.g. a bi-weekly supervision and training sessions for the Counsellors) & implemented varied psycho-educational programs for students and staff.

Played a key role as a Project Team Member on the SMS-NPT Disability Project (NUFFIC, Dutch-South African consortium capacity building project on the prevention and response to disability, (2010-2012) which led to the establishment of the Center for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (CEDRES) at the KNUST.

Won competitive grants for meaningful research that inform my teaching and clinical practice.  My provision of psychotherapy has literally saved many lives (from suicide) and transformed several others.

Successfully supervised and graduated a good number of post-graduate students for KNUST and other national and international institutions.
