Dr. Kofi Akohene Mensah is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Health Policy, Management and Economics, School of Public health of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. He holds BSc in Community Nutrition from the University for Development Studies, LLB from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, MSc in Health Services Planning and Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a PhD in Public Health and Health Policy from the University of Glasgow, UK. Prior to joining the University in 2013, He was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aniniwah Medical Centre, a 100-bed private hospital in Kumasi, Ghana. As a CEO, he coordinated several community-based interventions to improve health outcomes in deprived and hardest-to-reach communities with local and international organizations such Ghana AIDS Commission, USAIDS, DANIDA, UNICEF, CRS, Word Vision Ghana, etc in the area of HIV/AIDS, child survival, Nutrition, Health care Financing, Non-communicable diseases, etc. Since he joined the University as a lecturer, he has amassed an impressive record of teaching, research and service to the community: He mentors and teaches graduate and undergraduate students in medicine, Optometry, public health and related fields. He has coordinated translational research that has culminated in national policies in maternal, neonatal, child health and health systems strengthening. Also, he has established collaborations with academic institutions, academics and health researchers of international repute which have led to a network of partnership with great benefit for Ghana. His current interest is in Health policy and systems strengthening, Health Services Leadership and Management, Digital Health, Mental Health, Health care Financing, Non-Communicable Diseases, Maternal and Child Health Nutrition and community-based HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support.
