From Non-Performing To High Performing Institition

FROM NON-PERFORMING TO HIGH-PERFORMING INSTITUTION

INTRODUCTION

An entrepreneur approached me and complained that he had put in all the resources that were needed in his organisation to make profit, yet the organisation was not making it. They could not even break even. I told him that if he put in all the resources required and yet the organisation was not performing, he should not blame the employees but should rather blame management.

Why blame management

He was shocked to hear such assertion because he had professional managers at post. In fact having professional managers is not enough to promote businesses. The most important thing is the ability of the managers to apply their professional skills in the business. Management has to develop the right systems, processes and assign the right employees to work on the various processes. The processes should be rigidly followed. Though goals are important, they are not as important as the systems and the processes.

The right business processes

I cited examples of processes in high performing banks, insurance companies, private schools/ universities and some multinational companies to explain how they advance to make huge profits. I explained how to develop the precise systems and processes for his organisation. My advice was well taken. He went back to his organisation, organised a workshop for his professional managers to develop the right systems and to adopt the right processes. Like a magic, his organisation was transformed from a non-performing to a high –performing establishment.
