DR ERNEST OWUSU-DAPAA
OBJECTIVE: I have developed myself academically and professionally to the highest attainable level as possible at my age of 45 + and seek to offer myself to serve Ghana and the world in any academic, executive, judicial or related roles as appropriate.
PERSONAL PROFILE
I am the Dean of Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. I have considerable experience in university teaching, collaborative research, vast institutional management experience, board room experience and headship/membership of high-profile Boards as well as law practice in the areas of litigation up to Supreme Court and transactional lawyering for international law firms and clients. Some committees and Teams I have served and continue to serve include the following: Member, Governing Council of KNUST; Member, Executive Committee of KNUST; Member Academic Board of KNUST, Member, KNUST Statute Review Committee; Member, Legal Advisory Board of KNUST; Member, College Board of College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Member, Faculty Board of Faculty of Law; Member, Departmental Board, Department of Commercial Law; Member, Interim Management Committee, Tek-Cooperative Credit Union; Member, Odotobiri Rural Bank; Member, Board of Trustees, Centre for Human Rights and Advanced Legal Research; Member, Examiners Board of General Legal Council’s Independent Examination Committee. My research interests are in the areas of Health Care Law, Medical Law and Ethics, Corporate Law and Legal theory and Legal History. As a Dean of Law, I provide leadership for the African premier science and technology oriented Faculty of Law, KNUST. The interface between law, science and technology provides numerous prospects and challenges from regulatory perspective. I lead our Faculty of Law to provide pioneering role in researching and teaching the countless thematic areas and fields of law emerging from the unstoppable marriage between law on one hand and science and technology on the other.
Beyond my academic career, I am personally convinced that law cannot be appreciated fully without situating it in the context of practice whereby legal doctrines are deployed to mediate tensions and conflicts extant in concrete problems of our lives. In this regard I am proudly associated with Owusu-Dapaa Law & Associates headquarters in Kumasi where I serve as consultant from time to time. My many years of teaching and researching corporate law and medical law have also created opportunity for me serve on many corporate and institutional boards in public and private sector across West Africa.
