Prof. Raphael Deladem Folitse is a distinguished Veterinary Surgeon specializing in Avian Medicine and holds the position of Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases, with an extensive educational background, including studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ukraine Agricultural Academy in Kiev, University of Minnesota in St. Paul (USA), University of Osaka Prefecture, Sakai City in Japan (JICA Programme), and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1984 from Kiev, Ukraine.
With a wealth of academic qualification including, a Master of Science in Veterinary Pathobiology and a Specialist Avian Pathologist cerification, my career has been marked by significant contributions to veterinary science. I achieved the rank of Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases in August 2015. I have been in various capacities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where I currently serve as an Associate Professor on post-retirement contract. My employment history reflects leadership roles, including, being the Pioneer Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine and a former Head of the Department of Pathobiology at KNUST. Prior to my employment at KNUST, I had held various positions at the Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, serving as Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Regional Veterinary Officer, and District Veterinary Officer. Noteworthy is my brief role as the Head of Veterinary Laboratory in Accra, from where I was engaged to start the School of Veterinary Medicine at KNUST in 2009.
Beyond my academic and professional achievements, I have actively contributed to the community through my involvement in committees, boards and associations. I have been the Vice-Chairman of the Veterinary Council of Ghana, and have chaired and served on multiple committees, such as the Curriculum Review Committee and the Accreditation Committee of the Veterinary Council of Ghana. My dedicatiion extends beyong the Veterinary Council of Ghana to serving on several committees and boards at KNUST.
In the field of education, I have made subtantial contributions to teaching, specializing in courses such as Advanced Immunology, Advanced Virology, Infectous Agents and Zoonoses to Postgraduate students; and Immunology, Virology, Infectious diseases, Avian Medicine, and Equine Viral Disease to undergraduate DVM students. I also teach Advanced Avian Pathology at the Pan-African University of Life Sciences, Ibadan (PAULESI) as a part-time Lecturer.
My research focus is on simple sero-diagnostic and morphometric techniques for detection infectious diseases with socioeconomic and public health significance. My scientific publications, numbering over 60, relfect my commitment to advancing knowledge in veterinary medicine and public health.
