Mr. George Effah Asamoah is a Deputy Finance Officer at the Students Finance Section, KNUST. He holds a Master of Business Administration in financial management from University of Hull, UK and a Bachelor of Science in Administration from the University of Ghana, Legon. Mr. Asamoah is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) 2013 and a Fellow of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) from London College of Accountancy UK 2007.

Since his appointment in 2006, he has worked at the Internal Audit Department (July 2006 to June 2008) where he ensured that employees on payroll were at post by checking payroll for all scheduled areas- vacation of post, resignation and study leave.  At the Payables Section of Finance Office (June 2008 to Sept. 2009), his duties included paying of university bills, local and abroad and processing staff claims for travelling and examination expenditure. As an Acting Finance Officer at the College of Art and Built Environment, then College of Architecture and Planning (Oct 2009 to Sept. 2013), he was in charge of submission of expenditure returns to the Finance Officer, preparation of budget and procurement plan for inclusion in the University’s final budget and procurement plan to the government. In Oct. 2013 to Sept. 2016, he was responsible for investing and managing of funds of the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) and preparation of end of year financial statements. His duties at the College of Engineering (Oct. 2016 to Aug. 2018) included investing and managing of the College’s funds, supervision of Accounting Staff among others. As the Senior Accountant at the Basic School (Aug 2018 to July 2020), he ensured that budgets, procurement plan and investments of Basic School’s liquid funds were duly carried out on behalf of the Finance Officer.

Mr Asamoah has served on a number of Committees within KNUST, including the following: Resource person, Training Workshop on Financial Management on Budget preparation (Oct, 2011), Technocrat Magazine Board (2008 to 2011), Accra Guest House Management Board (2018), Treasurer, Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA- 2011 to 2014), Enterprise Development Board, Students’ Financial Services Management Board and many others.

 

Due to his outstanding credentials, academic excellence and passion for education, he was appointed as a Part-Time Lecturer and Coordinator of the Commonwealth Executive Master of Business/Public Administration at the Institute of Distance Learning, KNUST  to handle Accounting and Finance (Jan 2010 to Jan 2013)

Externally, Mr Asamoah has made considerable contributions to the development of Ghana, some of which include serving as a member of the Audit Report Implementation Committee (2008 to 2016) for Regional Coordinating Council (Ksi) and districts like Nkoranza South, Tano North, Asante Akim North, and Adansi North District. He was also a member of the Audit Committee (Institute of Chartered Accountants Nominee) for Sunyani Technical University and Onwe Government Hospital. His duties included ensuring the implementation of the recommendations in all audit reports by following up at the Auditor General and Public Accounts Committees recommendations as well as recommendations in the internal audit reports. Mr Asamoah also provided advice to Management on risk management, internal controls and compliance with laws, regulations and ethical standards. He also served as a member of the Governing Body of Berekum College of Education.

 

Currently, his duties include liaison with Planning Unit for the maintenance of list of students admitted and enrolled by schools, faculties and departments within the Colleges. He also ensures the payment of fees and other charges including Academic and Residential User Fees by students and manages student’s accounts as the Principal Signatory. Mr Asamoah also maintains an updated record of all students and administers an account for the various annual grants to students by the Scholarship Secretariat. In 2010, he was awarded the certificate of honour as the Best College Accountant for Excellent performance of duty.

Mr George Effah Asamoah has the ability to adapt to changing environment and situations. To him, “Excellence is an art won by training and habituation hence we are what we repeatedly do”. He is a fast learner, results oriented and gives high quality performance in his duty of work. Outside his work, he is a sport enthusiast who loves to particularly exercise on weekends, enjoys watching soccer, teaching students and traveling the world with family. He is a father to four (4) beautiful girls.
