Newman Osafo, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. With an academic foundation that includes a BPharm and a PhD in Pharmacology from KNUST, he specializes in natural products pharmacology, drug discovery, and the study of inflammation, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. His research focuses on evaluating novel compounds from natural sources to manage these conditions and elucidating their mechanisms of action.
As a researcher, Newman has contributed to over eighty (80) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference abstracts. His work is widely recognized in the scientific community. He actively serves on the editorial boards of prestigious international journals, including Scientific Reports and the International Journal of Inflammation. He has led and contributed to several research projects and currently supervises multiple PhD and MPhil candidates, alongside extensive undergraduate research mentorship.
In his role at KNUST, Newman teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in pharmacology, toxicology,and clinical toxicology. His leadership extends to various university committees. Internationally, he has served as a visiting scholar and as an external assessor for universities in Finland and Norway. Newman is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP), Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGh).
