Dr. Francis Opoku Agyapong is an early career researcher with a Lectureship position with the Department of Clinical Microbiology, School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Dr Agyapong also works as Physician Specialist at the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Medicine Directorate of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi, Ghana where he teaches junior doctors and provides medical consultancy services to patients.

He is a Clinical Microbiology PhD candidate at KNUST with his thesis submitted and defence due in October 2026. He is also a Member of the West African College of Physicians (Internal Medicine) and he is currently pursuing specialist fellowship training in Infectious Diseases Medicine reflecting his commitment to advancing expertise in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of infectious diseases.

His teaching covers clinical microbiology, bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, antimicrobial resistance, and infectious diseases for undergraduate and postgraduate health professional programmes. He is actively involved in curriculum development, student mentorship, research supervision, and assessment.

Dr. Agyapong's research interests include antimicrobial resistance, bacterial genomics, molecular epidemiology, invasive bacterial diseases, HIV-associated infections, tuberculosis, diagnostic microbiology, infectious disease epidemiology, and global health. He has collaborated extensively with national and international researchers through multicentre studies. He has presented in many international and local conferences and has published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet Global Health with Google Scholar ‘H’ index 5 with over 150 citations.

His current research seeks to improve understanding of pathogen epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and infectious disease transmission using molecular and genomic approaches to support evidence-based clinical practice and public health decision-making.

Dr. Agyapong welcomes research collaborations in clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology, and global health.
