Profile

I am a veterinary doctor by profession. I pursued applied epidemiology and disease control at the university of Ghana, Legon, under a One Health program. I was employed as a District veterinary officer in 2002 in charge of North Tongu District at a time. The district is currently known as Central Tongu in the Volta Region. I worked for 12 years covering central tongu, north tongu, parts of Adaklu and its environs. My main field activites were on vaccinations for cattle, sheep, goats and poultry against diseases such as CBPP, PPR, Anthrax, fowl pox etc. Part of my work was to oversee the daily activities of technicians who were stationed in zonal areas of the district. I was the head of animal health in the district so attended district heads meeting offering my expertise in both animal and zoonotic diseases such as Rabies, Bruccellosis, anthrax etc. Rabies became my passion after seeing a cowboy die of the disease. Since then, my efforts in helping eliminate the disease hightened through which i assisted in more vaccination in dogs agaisnt rabies.

i had the opportunity to attend courses both local and international not limited to Egypt, China, The Gambia. I also attended conferences in Ghana and abroad for oral and posters presentations.

I lecture at the department of veterinary public health and epidemiology, KNUST, teaching courses in public health and preventive medicine. I coordinate the practical aspect of meat inspection at the Kumasi abattoir where i teach students on identification of wholesome meat that is patronized by the public. In the same vein, students are taught to partially or wholly condemn carcasses unfit for the public. I have worked extensively on canine rabies research with focus on ways to enhance elimination. I currently undertake free yearly antirabies vaccination in parts of Bongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana. I call myself rabies person but i kind of get involved more in other zoonotic diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza, cisticercosis. I have managed to bring young veterinary graduates together to write on animal diseases using non scientific language to the benefit of the public. We published in the print and online media on topics such as how to identify sick dogs, care for dogs. rabbit haemorrhagic disease, rabies, avian influenza etc. A group I call one health, came together to solicit for assistance from the German epidemic unit was invited through our collective work and we had a one week training for veterinary staff and farmers in the Ashanti region. Presentations were made from the animal and human perspectives regarding One Health in Ghana.

I have participated in several conferences both national and international. My publications are mainly in zoonosis by I also ventured in foetal wastage in animals, a situation that denies us of female animals that would bring forth offsprings for food security in Ghana. I have also participated in antimicrobial resistance topics publishing a paper on the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in poultry. i have also participated as resource person in workshops that deal with veterinary related and One Health issues. I review papers for publication in international journals.

I am the current school examinations officer. My interests are in zoonoses control in domestic and wild animals.
