PROJECT OBJECTIVE _____ Audio narative______

The increasing demand for food fish coupled with the decline in capture fisheries, has given impetus to aquaculture production in Ghana. The shift from semi intensive pond culture to intensive fish culture in cages on the Volta Lake has led to the demand of high quality feeds. Feed accounts for 40% - 60% of production cost in aquaculture and fish farmers have adopted strategies to minimize feed cost during production either by feeding supplements or resorting to farm-made feeds).

The Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management’s fish farm located on KNUST campus has a feed production unit where feed is prepared using locally available ingredients for fish production. Feed formulation refers to the process of determining quantity of ingredients and additives to blend in order to prepare a feed that meet the nutritional requirements of targeted species and achieve production goals at an optimized cost. The common fish species reared are the tilapia and catfish.
