Feed preparation involves the following steps:

  • Sieving of the ingredients: Ingredients are sieved to remove fibrous particles.
  • Weighing of the ingredients; the ingredients are weighed in their right proportion and placed in the mixer.
  • Ingredients are thoroughly mixed in a mixer (30kg per batch) periodically the mixer is checked to ensure that the ingredients are well mixed.
  • Addition of warm water (80-90℃): warm water is added to mixed ingredients to form a moist mixture.
  • Pelletizing: The mixture is then transferred to the pelletizer and, compressed using a die that corresponds to size of the fish.
  • Sun-drying. The feed pellets are sun-dried to reduce the moisture level to below 10%. This is to ensure that the feed does not grow mouldy which during storage which could affect the health of the fish.
